Meet The Company Using AI To Stop America’s Back Health Crisis
MENLO PARK, CA. — December 15, 2025 — Approximately 80% of Americans experience back pain at some point in their lives. While sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and an aging population are known culprits, the problem has been exacerbated by the shortcomings of the U.S. healthcare system.
Back pain is one of the most costly—yet poorly managed—areas of care. Despite an annual spend of approximately $100 billion, back pain patients are routinely passed from one doctor to the next, unable to find a clear path to relief.
Enter MyBackHub. Founded by Stanford orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Gardner, the company has one mission: to transform back health with AI.
“Back pain patients have been the most neglected patients in the US healthcare system,” says Gardner. “Today, that changes.”
After polling over 10,000 patients, the company knew that back pain care needed to be accessible, effective, and, in the vast majority of cases, non-surgical. So they reimagined the patient journey with these goals in mind.
Gardner explains: “Our innovative AI-powered virtual therapy model has created a new day for back pain care: one that’s no longer limited by location, insurance, or a doctor’s calendar.”
The company’s mission is supported by a dream team — world-leading body movement experts, top spinal doctors at Harvard, Duke, and Johns Hopkins, and computer scientists from Stanford and UC Berkeley developing AI back pain algorithms in partnership with Mayo Clinic.
The experience begins with an at-home PostureBackNeck Assessment. After providing their medical history and current health profile, patients complete a detailed scan using the camera on their computer. This information is analyzed by AI to assess posture, asymmetry, and movement, with results generated in minutes.
Based on these insights, condition-specific next steps are recommended. As patients interact with the AI Guided Therapy, they receive personalized movement recommendations that adapt to their condition, with optional live expert coaching sessions available as an add-on.
“In medical terms, we’re providing personalized, evidence-based back pain care — from early detection to long-term recovery,” Gardner continues. “But what we’re really doing is helping people get their lives back.”
